Currently on show are new works by Scott Michael Ackerman, a self-taught artist from upstate New York. Ackerman is known as an ‘Outsider’ artist because his unconventional and primitive approach to painting rejects the boundaries of traditional art culture. Rather than start with a blank canvas, Ackerman prefers to use ‘found objects’ with rough character such as old wood, windows, and doors, and is known for his playful use of text within the work. Sharp Teeth is a collection of figurative paintings that conjure the narrative of dark fairytales, with a bestiary of strange animals and cast of enigmatic characters.

Hawk + Hive was established in Andes, NY in 2021 by Jayne Parker. The gallery presents 4-6 weekly shows throughout the year, featuring the work of emerging and mid-career artists in a range of media.
