Sophia Maduri lives in Denver-Vega and has loved drawing and painting all her life. Sophia will be graduated from Roxbury Central School in June 2016 and is now enrolled in the SUNY Ulster Fine Arts program.
Her art is mostly portraits — human, and animal. Her favorite mediums are graphite, watercolor, and colored pencil. She hopes to expand these interests at school to include acrylic and oil paints. Sophia’s favorite artists for inspiration are Vincent van Gogh, Marissa Asal, Kate Louise Powell and Leonardo da Vinci. She hopes to be a freelance artist specializing in portrait commissions.
“I create portraits and other artwork to challenge myself. I draw portraits not only to try and improve my drawing skills but because they are like a snapshot for me. Portraits can convey emotions and ideas that may not be so easy to express, that is why I enjoy drawing them.
Although I mainly enjoy drawing people in my portraits, I do enjoy drawing other objects that hold meaning or fascination with me. My artwork is still changing as I am evolving as an artist. I have no set style, I am still experimenting in what manners and techniques I want to express these ideas. Although no set style is in place my drawings all have in common ideas and emotions I wanted to express.”
